Adjust Windows Defender and its Controlled Folder Access feature

You likely landed here because your VideoPsalm showed the following popup at startup:

Explanation

The problem with Controlled Folder Access (CFA) is that it can stop legitimate apps from accessing required files when they need to.
That can be an especially big issue for VideoPsalm since it often can’t save your changes to songs and settings with CFA enabled.

Fortunately, CFA has an exclusion (exception) list for adding trusted apps.
It won’t block any trusted apps on that list from modifying files within protected folders.
You can add software to the exclusion list as follows:

Solution 1. Set a "Controlled Folder Access" exception for VideoPsalm

The CFA setting is buried within ransomware protection in the Windows Security app.

Step 1. To open the Windows Security settings, double-click its shield system tray icon.

Step 2. Click the Virus & threat protection settings:

Step 3. Click Manage ransomware protection to reach the CFA setting:

Step 4. Click the + Add an allowed app button:

Step 5. In the dialog that opens, navigate to the VideoPsalm.exe (application) file.
You will find it in the following folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoPsalm

Solution 2. Run VideoPsalm as an administrator

This will give VideoPsalm the authorizations to save its files and settings.
With the mouse, right-click the VideoPsalm icon and select Run as administrator.
